At the foot of the Sierra de Albarracín is Albarracín, a town of 1093 inhabitants that gives its name to this mountain range. On a promontory rises the Castillo de Albarracín, recently restored after 3 centuries of abandonment. It consists of a large walled enclosure that contains a residence in which both Taifa rulers and Christian rulers have resided. Within the enclosure there is also an excavation area where medieval remains have been discovered, and in the outer part 2 military towers that are known as the tower of the Walker and Doña Blanca.
In the surroundings of the town are the pinewoods of Rodeno, called in this way because the ground on which the pines are rooted is of a type of red sandstone that is known as rodeno. The forest is inhabited by creatures such as the marten and the fox.
