Gala Mar

On the hill that rises above the neighboring town of Begur, we can find one of the best viewpoints on the Costa Brava: Begur Castle. It is an old fortress of medieval origin, which has been built as many times as the 3 times that it has been demolished, at least in part, the last one during the Spanish War of Independence against the French. This magnificent watchtower allows us some spectacular panoramic views that range from the Pyrenees or the Medes Islands or the Gulf of Roses.

Strolling through the town of Begur, you can take a tour through its beautiful streets that would already be worth a charming excursion, but the proposal is to find the 6 towers that were part of the defensive system created in the 16th century as a reaction to the frequent attacks pirates. The curious thing is that the ruins of all these fortifications have been integrated into the houses that have been built around them.

There is a small archipelago to the north of this position, that of the Medes Islands or Medes, around which short-distance cruises are carried out with which the marine habitat can be observed and in some cases underwater, since some of the ferries that circumnavigate them are equipped with panoramic glass floors.
