You're sporty and with the first snowfall you're sure to be keen to take on the white cloaks of snow in France, aren't you? Well, if you have a few days to spare, the best thing to do is to rent a rural house near the ski slope, which will allow you to combine your favourite sport with rural tourism.
And the fact is that, more and more tourists are choosing to stay in rural houses to make the most of their holidays by skiing on the main slopes.
Did you know that the northern part of France has the highest concentration of ski slopes? The French Alps are undoubtedly a real hotbed of people eager to explore each and every one of their slopes. Are you up for it?
CHOOSE YOUR DESTINATION
As we said, in France there are plenty of ski slopes waiting for you in the high season, and the first thing to do is to define the place where we want to rent our holiday cottage. Depending on your preferences, you will be able to travel close to one or the other slopes.
In France some of the best slopes are those of Morzine or Avoiraz, in Portes du Soleil, which also occupies Swiss territory. There are also the slopes of Chamonix-Mont Blanc and Val d'Isere, very close to Italy.
For those who also enjoy the views, Alpe d'Huez is an impressive ski resort in the Alps, also famous for being one of the stages of the Tour de France.
Which one will you choose?
WHAT KIND OF SKIER ARE YOU?
No one knows better than you how you handle yourself in the snow, so you need to know which slopes you can ski on safely. Travelling is all about enjoying your holiday and relaxation, so there's no need to put yourself at risk.
There are green slopes, perfect for those who are just starting out in this sport and without great difficulties, so it is also recommended for the youngest ones, but if you feel that they are too easy for you, then the blue category slopes are the ones for you, with a low to medium level.
For the more professional skiers we leave the red and black slopes, the latter only recommended for professionals.
KNOW THE SERVICES
Staying in a holiday cottage near a ski resort is a bonus to your holidays, whether you are already an expert in the snow, or if your purpose is to get started in this winter sport.
If you are a beginner, you will probably have to take a closer look at the services offered by the resort, for example, the rental of ski suits and skis, or the ski pass. And if you already have your equipment, it is also advisable to find out if there is any kind of restaurant service in the surrounding area.
Also keep an eye on the access routes and how to go from your accommodation to the nearest ski resort.
ENJOY SKIING
Once you've planned your trip so that there are no surprises, you know where you're going to start your holiday in the snow, and you've done a bit of research on the services the area has to offer, the most difficult part will be over!
The only thing left for you will be to enjoy your holiday and get off some steam as you ride through the mountains covered in a deep and pure white colour. Always safely, but enjoying your holidays and your favourite sport.
Have a great time!
