Benidorm is an authentic magnet for tourism, a very in demand destination thanks to its wide range of activities and points of interest it has on offer that form part of the province of Alicante within the region of Marina Baja.
This city is pure beach, sun, activities and plans for any type of traveller who wants to enjoy the Mediterranean, the Costa Blanca and a city full of life that will ensure you live a ton of unforgettable experiences.
It’s worth pointing out that it’s one of the preferred destinations amongst travellers and, especially during summer. In winter it has a population of about 70,000 residents while in summer its foot flow sits at about 400,000 people.
Do you know what Benidorm means in Arabic? Part of the name comes from the word Beni, which means children and is the root of the word. The rest of its name is associated with the community that was residing in the area at the time.
One sure thing about this city is that it has a map filled with things to see, experiences to be enjoyed and magnificent views to be admired in every part of the city.
Even though it’s a very important area for tourism, it’s a lot more than just a beach, here are a few other things you can do!
There are lots to choose from that don’t involve spending a day at the beach. We recommend without a doubt doing some sort of hiking trail around the Island of Benidorm which is a rocky massif that forms part of the Sierra Helada national park where you can experience a spectacular sunset.
In the Sierra Helada Park, there’s also a viewpoint called the Cruz de Benidorm, where you will also be able to see the sea, surrounded by the most spectacular nature. Another place where you can admire the sea and the skyline would be the Punta del Canfali viewpoint where you will also get to see the remains of an old castle.
Torre Punta del Caballo also forms part of the national park and is a declared national cultural interest and is also known as the Tower of les Caletes (Torre de Les Caletes).
So, what is there for you to see in Benidorm? If so, far it doesn’t seem like there is a lot, in the city centre you can visit the church of San Jaime and Santa Ana (Iglesia de San Jaime and de Santa Ana). On the inside you can find an image of the Virgen del Sufragio who is the patron saint of the local community. Another thing worth seeing is the cross which is located in the most elevated part of the mountains with views of the sea.
As you can see, this locality has a lot of things to do, although if you travel with friends, you’ll probably want to get to know and enjoy the coast. In that case, you have three beaches to choose from that are all blue flag approved. There are even two charming coves that are pretty close to the bars, restaurants and clubs so you can also experience the night life.
If you’re coming in a big group and want to stay a few days, we encourage you to find a rural house in Benidorm and a summer house with a private pool. During off peak season you’ll be to book cheaper homes and campsites. One thing you can be sure of is that you’ll be able to enjoy some of the best holiday homes in the communities of Valencia and Alicante.
