We open the doors to the Costa Blanca, a corner where you can enjoy great culture and nature from the municipality of Jávea, being of the best holiday destinations in the province of Alicante.
Jávea, or “Xàbia” for the locals, is a place full of magic protected by its highest peak, the “Montgó”, which shelters this town from winds, giving it a mild climate that delights tourists. Did you know that in the 90’s it was considered the best climate in the world? You can get an idea of how comfortable you will be in this town in Alicante.
It is undoubtedly an attraction for those in search of nature, who find in this jewel of the “Marina Alta” region, a true paradise of greenery and water. As for its beaches, we can highlight some such as “Cala Ambolo”, which will transport you to any tropical island. It is not the most accessible beach, so it is perfect if you are looking for a bit of tranquillity or even a bit of excitement by diving. And when you've finished bathing, don't hesitate to go up to its viewpoint.
Other charming beaches are “Playa del Arenal”, which is much more popular due to its calm and shallow waters, making it one of the favourite family beaches. And get your camera ready if you decide to spend the day at “Cala Granadella”, as its views, between cliffs, are spectacular.
But Jávea offers much more than just beaches, as it has the “Cova Tallada”, one of the must-see places on your trip. It is a huge stone cave next to “Cabo de San Antonio” that you can even reach by kayak. If you're more of a down-to-earth kind of person, you ought to have a good hike up “Montgó”, and if you manage to reach the top, you'll even be able to see the island of Ibiza. From there, it's easy to get to the “Cabo de San Antonio” lighthouse.
But to get to know Jávea in depth you must visit its beautiful old town, with cobbled streets that lead to monuments and historical sites, or even to the “Mercado de Abastos”, another of the visits.
Don't miss the “Plaza de la Iglesia”, where the Gothic church that once acted as a defence and is in honour of “San Bartolomé” stands. Nearby is also the Town Hall, another of the nerve centres to visit.
In the evening a stroll around the port or enjoy a walk through the most touristy part of the area called “Arenal de Jávea”, is an ideal plan.
If you have never experienced the festivities in this municipality, you are missing something unique! Their famous Moors and Christians filling every street with music and colours. It is not the only festivity, as the “fiestas of San Sebastián” and “Jesús Nazareno” are also highlighted in the town's calendars.
If there is one tradition par excellence, it is “La Nit dels Focs”, which is celebrated in June, on the night of “San Juan”.
Finally, we recommend that you take advantage of your stay in this area to try some of its typical dishes. Recipes with two basic pillars: rice and fish that create delicacies such as paellas, a pure taste of Jávea!
