What to see
Welcome to one of the most important regions on a national and European level. A perfect blend of cultures, memories of the past and German influence create one of the most popular destinations in France.
Nature, culture, heritage and gastronomy are what you will find in one of the smallest regions of France, which also borders on Germany and Switzerland, two countries that you can also visit due to their proximity. But only if you have time, because in Alsace there are a lot of things to do.
Travel to the past as you visit its castles, especially in the Upper Koenigsbourg area and enjoy the views of the surrounding landscape. Try a good Colmar wine, and of course, stroll through the centre of the capital, Strasbourg.
For the more cosmopolitan ones, their key city is Mulhouse, which in recent years has become a French capital of art.
With these many options, who wouldn't want to visit Alsace?
What to eat
There is no trip to Alsace that does not include a gastronomic tour of the area, where you can try some of the delights of their menus.
Among them, we highlight the baeckeoffe, which is a potatoes and meat stew cooked at a very low heat the elaboration of which is a traditional gastronomic experience itself. Another of the star dishes is tarte flambée, a kind of pizza originally served on a wooden board.
Most of the dishes show their German influence, which is why beer culture is so deeply rooted here too. Liquors are quite popular among Alsatians, although if there is one par excellence, it is wine.
To put the icing on the cake, and never better, if you travel at Christmas time you will find the Bédalas, which are biscuits and sponge cakes that are typically enjoyed these holidays.
Nature
The tourist offer in the region of Alsace is one of the most varied and impressive that you can experience in France.
If you like nature, we recommend that you take the Ridge Route located in the Vosges massif area. As you travel through the landscape, look at the peaks, enjoy the lakes and forests, and take the opportunity to observe the Black Forest during your excursion.
Travelling to the past is also an option in Alsace if you visit the Ecomuseum, where the life of the Alsatians over the last two centuries is represented in a village with authentic traditional houses that have been recreated in this living museum.
As we said, putting yourself in the shoes of a character in the famous film Beauty and the Beast is possible in the village of Eguisheim, and to feel like a real king, cross the gate of the Upper Koenigsbourg Castle from which you can also enjoy the best panoramic views.
To finish the trip, take a tour of the canals of Colmar, and seize the opportunity to go on its famous Wine Route.
Our festivities
Alsace has a large number of festivals and celebrations throughout the territory. Some are deep-rooted traditions, others are newer ones, but they are here to stay all the same.
If you are planning to travel in February, we recommend that you experience “Strasbourg mon Amour” in its capital, a holiday in which the city’s streets take on all colours, tastes and smells of tradition. Without a doubt, a date not to be missed.
We were talking about the most dynamic city in Alsace. The capital of Alsatian art becomes a carnival when spring arrives. Its colourful streets, the costumes and the bands brightening up all the corners of this city are worth living.
In spring you can also visit the city of Colmar, take advantage of its markets and outdoor activities available for everyone. The Colmar International Festival is also held here and is closely linked to the live music of the most outstanding artists in the area. City of wines par excellence, it celebrates 10 days around this drink in its Foire aux Vins d'Alsace.
Finally, although there are many more to discover, the Corso Fleuri in Sélestat will transport you to the most popular tradition held during the summer.
