Canyelles is a charming village in Barcelona's province, surrounded by mountains that provide a great valley to get lost in during a rural tourism vacation. It is in the Garraf region and surrounded by a stream with the same name as the settlement.
This community has a population of just over 3,500 people and is vibrant, and enjoys its own moments of fame. When a meteorite struck the area, it was dubbed the 'village of the meteorite.' The meteor's remains are presently on display in various locations across the peninsula.
What can you see in the old town? Canyelles has a well-preserved castle with various wall sections, battlements, and intact towers. The church of Santa Magdalena, which dates from the 18th century, may be found walking down the street towards the centre, not far from the citadel.
The village's main street ends at the so-called Plaça del Castell, now private property with some medieval ruins.
Canyelles is surrounded by a diverse natural landscape. The Olèrdola Regional Park and the Garraf Natural Park comprise part of its borders. There is a Buddhist monastery in the latter that is worth visiting. There are meditation activities available at this retreat as well as a restaurant.
What activities are available to you? There are several mountains in the town's vicinity with marked hiking trails. Puig de l'Àliga, Puig de les Forques and Montgròs are the three. Climbing the Penya de l'Escofet is an option for adventure and thrill-seekers.
Canyelles is known for its traditional bread production, and its delectable aroma can be detected in the streets. It is also a popular topping for local foods like xató and chanterelles.
The perfect places to rest are rural houses, with a cosy and charming atmosphere that does not interrupt the general appearance of the village. There are also a few country inns where you will be treated with respect and hospitality.
The main events of Canyelles are held between the 10th and 12th of September in honour of Saint Nicholas.
Canyelles is the ideal vacation spot for those looking for a good time or a more relaxing vacation.
