Montseny is a village that forms part of the province of Barcelona. It is located in the Vallés Occidental region, in the heart of the Montseny Natural Park. You can imagine the spectacular scenery that surrounds it!
It's the place for you if you enjoy tranquillity, history and culture. The mediaeval essence of the village and its natural setting are without equal.
Montseny is located at an altitude of over 500 metres and is protected by the Montseny Massif, Matagalls and Les Agudes mountains which are around 1,700 metres high. It’s the kind of place where time seems to have stood still, allowing you to discover the past through the living heritage of the village centre.
Getting here is easy. This village is well connected, although we recommend coming by car so that you can move around the region with greater freedom.
What to see in Montseny? Although it is not a very large village, nor densely populated, it does have a lot to see. Walking down the cobbled streets will reveal much about the history and culture of the area.
One of the first stops you should make is the hermitage of Sant Marçal, which is of Romanesque origin, as is the church of Sant Martí.
Right in the centre of the village is another example of religious architecture, the church of Sant Julià. It’s another Romanesque building, but it stands out for the ancient trees that surround it.
The Estela de la Calma is another of the landmarks in Montseny. It is a megalith featuring engravings that was found in a shepherd's hut. Today you can see a replica of this hut.
Finally, among the natural highlights is, of course, the protected Montseny Natural Park. There are hikes in the park that are a thrill for the senses, leading you through a landscape characterised by vegetation, lakes, waterfalls and mountains. The highest point of the park is the Turó de l'Home, which rises to an altitude of over 1,700 metres. There are several routes to the top, varying in duration from one to six hours.
There are places to stay of all kinds in Montseny: holiday cottages for small and large groups, rustic hotels, budget options and more. Even if you have pets, you shouldn't have trouble finding the perfect place to stay. You won’t be disappointed if you’re dreaming of a holiday home with a swimming pool either!
Whatever you choose, you’re bound to enjoy your stay in Montseny!
