In the north of the province of Cáceres is the municipality of Jarandilla de la Vera. It forms part of the region of La Vera, where the landscapes offer spectacular vistas and make for a perfect holiday in the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos.

In terms of population, it is the second most densely populated municipality in the whole region, with almost 3,000 jarandillanos, as the inhabitants are called. It’s second only to Jaraíz, which is the largest town in the region.
What to see in Jarandilla de la Vera? There are many places to see in the area, but we are going to give you a list of the essentials, a series of sites that take you on a journey through the area and its history.
First of all, one of the most important: Jarandilla Castle Palace, which holds the status of an Asset of Cultural Interest. It has a spectacular courtyard and a keep that is well worth a visit. It's one of the highest castles in the world and therefore one of the best photo opportunities in the area and beyond.
It was the property of the Counts of Oropesa. Charles V also stayed here while they were building what would later become his official residence.It is now a Parador, a state-run hotel, so you can sleep in the same building as the historical king of Spain.
Strolling through the old town you will enjoy the traditional architecture of its buildings, in which stone is the clear protagonist. You will also come across its two main bridges: the Puente Parral and the Puente Jaranda.
In terms of religious architecture, the church of Nuestra Señora de la Torre stands out, as well as the church of San Agustín and the Convent of San Francisco. There are also several hermitages such as that of El Cristo and that of Sopetrán, where the image of the patron saint is located alongside other works of art.
The region of La Vera boasts impressive natural features, especially gorges. In Jarandilla we find the Garganta Jaranda, a gorge with multiple pools that form the perfect natural swimming places for bathing in summer.
How to get here? This village is perfectly communicated by road from different parts of the country, making it one of the most convenient destinations for a weekend getaway.
