Are you wanting to take a trip to a destination that is full of nature and, if possible, near the sea?
If so we recommend that you travel to the town of Oreña, which is located in Cantabria, where you will be able to disconnect and learn about rural tourism in depth.
This coastal town belongs to the municipality of Alfoz de Lloredo, and is the one closest to the sea. With this location, its constant vegetation and imposing cliffs, it makes one of the best views you could imagine and to see it is a must.
The coastal profile extends over 4 kilometers in which you will be able to enjoy the Cantabrian coast in a space full of charm.
If you like natural spaces, in Puerto Calderón you will find an inlet where Punta Calderón and Punta del Poyo converge. The port that is located here has had a great importance during the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, being the only free route by sea that remained between the towns of San Vicente de la Barquera and Santander. It is an unmissable visit that is also very close to Santillana del Mar. If you like spending days by the sea or fishing, this corner of Oreña is perfect.
Another visit that you cannot miss is the Cueva de Cualventi, a declared a Site of Cultural Interest and popularly known as Cueva de Oreña. The excavations that took place in this area uncovered some elements of Prehistory and the Middle Ages, as well as some references to Paleolithic art that are distributed up to three heights.
Oreña is also a town whose urban centre was developed around one of its religious references, which is the church of San Pedro, in the centre. Although it is not the only religious building, since you will find several hermitages, as is the case of that of Nuestra Señora de Guía, halfway between three of the ten neighbourhoods that make up Oreña, or those of San Bartolomé, Sagrado Corazón and San Tito.
Precisely next to the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Guía, we find the Casa Torre de Quintana or Palacio de Quintana, which was the residence of many illustrious personalities in the history of Oreña.
The Casa de Calderón, which was owned by a family of great importance in the area, and located in the Perelada neighbourhood, where you will also be able to find another of the points of greatest interest in the town, which is the Casona de Perelada, where you can admire its façade.
But if there is a route that you cannot miss, that is the one that leads to the famous Christ of Oreña, a spectacular sculpture of 5 meters high, of Christ with open arms from where you have spectacular views of the entire coast and even from the Picos de Europa. Impressed? It does not surprise us.
You have not known Oreña until you try its gastronomy, and the fact is that in the area they have natural products packed with flavor such as cheese, honey or lemons, which are the basis for some recipes that you will love.
As you can see, to enjoy Oreña is to enjoy its perfect combination of culture, na
