With a past markedly influenced by visiting/invading cultures, the Costa Brava preserves a large part of those influences, even if it is in the form of historical remains. This is the case of the Roman ruins of Platja D'Aro, a 10-hectare site that makes it one of the largest in the entire Catalan territory.

It is an old agrarian town dedicated above all to winemaking tasks and it is from this part of the Iberian Peninsula that many of the wines that once filled the cups of the empire came from. It is an area that we can enjoy in a relaxed and free manner, also having the benefit of being an open-air cultural visit.

In the town of Castell itself, raised to the top of its urban core, we find the Castillo de Benedormiens, a fortress that was originally built in the 11th century, of which unfortunately few original parts remain and it is that Throughout its history it has suffered numerous violent incursions, the latest being a fire during the revolts of the remensas in the fifteenth century or the explosion of a powder keg during the French attacks in the War of Independence.

Now fully restored, trying to preserve the original style, since 1970 it has become the headquarters of the Cultural Center of the city, where exhibitions and informative events are held.
