Sourroundings of Casa Idileku
Espronceda is a village of 119 inhabitants located in the west of Navarra. Within the same merindad, is located Estella, placed in a meander of the river Ega. The road to Santiago passes through this city, and is so named precisely because it was founded as a point of attention for the pilgrim. Its name in Euskera, Lizarra, means Land of Ash and reflects the trees that surround it.
Estella stands out for having at its center the church of San Pedro de la Rúa, a monument from the mid-twelfth century that presents architectural elements of later centuries. It has a porticoed cloister with Doric columns decorated with plant motifs, and in the central niche there is an image of the Virgin of the O painted in the XIV century.
In addition, in this city you can see the Castillo Mayor, a defensive fortress of the eleventh century that was used as a royal residence between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries. The castle was built in three phases, being the last in the thirteenth century and is in a rock on the outskirts of the city.
