Montanejos is a municipality in the province of Castellón where you can enjoy some of the best landscapes in the region of Alto Mijares and a rich patrimony which makes it a very attractive tourist destination.
The mountains that shelter this town don’t only separate it from the Teruel province but also holds the gem of Montanejos, the town being one of the best places to enjoy nature and its water. One of the main attractions is the thermal village, its water luring in visitors with its beauty.
In terms of its location, it’s situated between the Maimona cliff and the Montán river and is 418 metres in the air, however, the river that passes through the town is the Mijares.
It is home to just short of 550 habitants which will allow you to visit different parts in peace and enjoy a truly unique experience.
So, what is there to see in Montanejos? This town has lots of things that will entice you not only amongst its nature but also in the town centre, you’ll come across a lot of things you don’t want to miss out on.
In terms of the religious patrimony, we must highlight the parish church in honour of San Jaime. In La Alquería, one of the surrounding villages, there’s a chapel dedicated to the Virgen of the Desamparados and near the chapel there are remains of what was once the castle.
In the centre you can see the tower of Montanejos, situated in the heart of the municipality, it’s one of the best photos in the town you’ll get and has even been declared natural cultural interest.
You also cannot miss out on the town house building, the house of the Valderra and the bridge of San José which is an impressive aqueduct with stunning views.
What is there to see if you have children? If you’re travelling with kids is something you’ve probably asked yourself. You’ve come to the perfect place as the list of activities and places of interest on offer that young ones can join in on are extensive.
If you like natural spaces, there’s nothing like going to the Fuente de los Baños where you’ll be able to enjoy the medicinal properties of the water of this precious spring. To get there you need a ticket you can purchase online or there on the dot.
All residents as well as their families and visitors that have booked accommodation in Montanejos get free entry, however, we recommend you ask first. Plus, the ticket lets you bathe and enjoy the nature.
How do you actually get here? The easiest way is by car, and we highly recommend you go on a road trip through the outskirts as there’s lots of beautiful sights to be seen.

You could even stay in a traditional Spanish Casa Rural, a gorgeous holiday home in the countryside, and there’s plenty that come with pools for summertime.
