Travelling in France is a marvellous experience, especially in the Cévennes region, an area where nature and culture come together perfectly, and where you can enjoy a perfect day out, no matter what your idea of an ideal trip is.
The undisputed landmark of this region is the Cévennes National Park, a spectacular spot that has been declared a French Grand Site of Occitania. You will also be surprised to know that it is the only one located in a mid-mountain area, forming part of the Massif Central.
The Cévennes is an ideal destination for adventure lovers, as its landscape full of nature, its mountains and the very high peaks, such as Mount Aigoual and the Lozère, are ideal for activities such as canyoning and paragliding, among others.
But nature is not the only thing you can find in this region, as there are numerous villages and areas of great artistic value where you can lose yourself and where you are sure to find the perfect rural accommodation for you.
What can you visit in Cévennes?
We have talked about the importance of the natural relief of this region for tourism and fir its economy, and that is why one of the best options you have is to start by visiting its landscapes. One of them is Mont Augoual, to which a hiking route will take you, with a prize at the end: the Observatory.
Mont Lozère is the highest point in the Cévennes, where a whole world of possibilities for enjoying nature and travelling back in time opens up before you. The menhirs of the Cham des Bondons and the Lac de Villefort are two stops not to be missed.
If you don't want to walk, there's always the Cévennes Steam Train, a comfortable adventure where you'll see everything from bamboo fields to chestnut groves and natural areas to take a swim in, all without having to walk a single step.
You can't travel to the Cévennes and not see one of France's most impressive landscapes: the Gorges du Tarn, which you can explore on foot or even from the inside in a kayak.
And if we have covered the entire surface, we now go to the depths of the Cévennes to come across the Bramabiau Abyss, where its river has created a spectacular underground labyrinth in the Cave of La Cocalière, which you can explore with camera in hand to immortalise the beauty of its galleries full of whimsical formations.
La Garde-Guérin is one of those villages not to be missed either. Its medieval essence is reflected in its streets and stone houses, with views of the most impressive valleys by the Chassezac river.
Cévennes is, as you can see, a place of contrasts where you can enjoy a holiday among medieval villages and natural areas where greenery, mountains and activities will give you a 360º view of the region.
Welcome to Cévennes!
