The region of La Manchuela holds some gems such as the municipality of El Picazo, that forms part of the province of Cuenca, where you’ll be able to enjoy a vast patrimony surrounded by impressive natural spaces.
It is comprised of the Júcar river that makes for a beautiful landscape that you’ll be sure to want to take a photo of. The municipality counts on a population of almost 700 habitants more commonly known as “picaceños” in Spanish.
What is there to see in El Picazo? The city centre of the locality has lots of points of interest on offer amongst its beauty that are worth stopping by at to admire.
One of said places is the square of the town council building, one of the prettiest in the whole region where you’ll be able to enjoy a pleasant walk or a bite to eat in the local restaurants. Furthermore, El Picazo and its people will welcome you with open arms.
In the same square, you’ll find the parish church, which is the most important temple in the town as it was built in the first half of the 16th century.
Another attraction are the palace-like-houses that adorn the streets. Located in the square you’ll also find the House of the Ruiz Monsalve, a very impressive construction from the 17th century.
There are two more that are the houses of Diego Villanueva and Don Mateo Jerónimo, both from the same century as the first one, now converted into a social hub. They are some of the most characteristic elements of the town.
What is there to do in El Picazo? There are a lot of things to do in this locality. You could take a stroll down its streets, enjoy its rich gastronomy, making sure you try the cheese, as it is recognised worldwide, and explore its surroundings and those are just a few ideas we’ll leave you with for your trip.
In the surroundings, there are also lots of natural spaces such as the gorge of the Júcar, which is a very eco-friendly space. In general, the landscapes that decorate the surroundings come thanks to the path of the Júcar river that we would encourage you to visit.
When are the festivities in El Picazo? At the end of the first week in October in celebration of Virgen del Rosario, who is the patron saint, although another important date would be the procession of la Virgen and mass.
How can you get here? There are a few different ways of getting to this municipality, although the best way would be to come by car as you can travel around a few neighbouring towns and get a bigger picture of the region.
