Las Majadas is a municipality located in the province of Cuenca and in the region of Serranía Alta where you’ll be able to enjoy a spectacular natural landscape, the best views of nearby places and jaw dropping patrimony to admire.
In the heart of a Sierra de Cuenca there is a territory located 1,400 metres in the air making it very cold and one of the towns in Castilla La Mancha with the lowest temperatures and it frequently snows.
It’s an ideal destination to get to know the natural park of Serranía de Cuenca and the hunting park of El Hosquillo, where the population is a little over 200 that are called majaeros.
What is there to see in Las Majadas de Cuenca? It is a very peaceful place with a mountainous landscape that has a patrimony tied with culture for you to discover and a history waiting to be learned down every street you walk down.
Without a doubt the Parish church of Nuestra Señora del Sagrario, who is the patron saint of the town and where you’ll get to enjoy the views from the bell tower. It’s worth going inside to admire the artwork that decorate the walls.
On the outside of the church the Rollo de la Justicia can be found which is also known as the patio and it’s the place where they put the law manifesto from the Middle Ages. It’s not the only religious representation that existed in the area, there were four more chapels. It’s also worth going to check out the town council building.
What is there to do? Beside from the town centre that you’re going to love, the biggest lure for visitors is actually the natural spaces and that’s why there’s no better idea than exploring some of the hiking routes that will take you on a journey through a few different spots on a hiking route where you can learn in depth about the vegetation and fauna that inhabit the area.
If you’re an adventure lover, as well as going on one of the hiking routes you could also live the experience of an activity that will allow you to release all your adrenaline like a climb. In the El Hosquillo park you can also see the fauna there in their natural habitats.
But if you want to get to know something different, there’s nothing like visiting the Callejones de las Majadas, located in the outskirts in the middle of a natural park where the rocks, with their erosion, have went forming interesting shapes over time and have even created natural bridges and alleys you can pass through and enjoy the views of the park from. This area takes a while to see everything, about an hour and a half on average as its three and a half kilometres long and its hardly difficult.
How do you get here? You can come by car, and you can even come by bus, however, the easiest way would definitely be to come by car.
