Welcome to a real wonderland for tourism. A region between two important mountain ranges in France: the Alps and the Massif Central. The combination and variety of landscapes in this area make for the perfect holiday for you and your loved ones.
It belongs to the French district of Drôme, but tourism has developed considerably in this area and is so named because of its proximity to the Provence. The Drôme Provençale region is undoubtedly a destination of contrasts where you can visit from the villages bathed by the Mediterranean, to the small and more peaceful inland villages that are yet to be discovered.
On this visit, you will discover the scent of lavender coming from its populous purple fields, and the sights of the olive groves that are the home of the cicadas, the sound of which can often be heard in summer. All this scenery is the gateway to its immense heritage.
Do you want to know which are the must-see places that will help you get to know this region in depth?
If we start by talking about the landscapes, we cannot fail to mention the jewel that is the Vercors Regional Nature Park, which acts as a natural border between this department and Isere. It is more than 200 hectares of pure nature and heart-stopping views thanks to its mountains, which give way to important gorges and waterfalls.
The Parc Naturel Régional des Baronies is another key spot for nature and active tourism activities in the area, with the highest concentration of lavender fields and olive groves to accompany your visit with a view and aroma characteristic of Drôme Provençale. In the midst of this natural wonderland you can visit villages such as Montbrun-les Bains, Vinsobres or Venterol.
The Toulourenc gorges, the Donzère gorge and the forests of Lente and Saou are all charming places to visit.
There are also places of great touristic interest that are not to be missed, such as the Ideal Palace of the Chebal postman, located in Hauterives. An incredible Historical Monument, although it is not the only one you will find here.
There are so many castles in the region that you can make a tour of the most significant ones, including the castles of Drôme and Tour de Crest. Other must sees include those castles in Grignan and Suze la Rousse.
Montelimar is a town well worth a visit, especially if you have a sweet tooth. It is located in the heart of the region, showing a spectacular historical past in elements such as its castle of Adhémar, in the highest part. Your mouth will be watering with the typical sweets of the city with nougat being a culinary emblem of this area.
It goes without saying that the gastronomic side of Drôme Provençale is also worth exploring in depth. As well as nougat, you'll find other products such as cheeses, including picodon and bleu du Vercors, which are used to make the delicious Ravioli de Dauphiné.
And with its unique scent of lavender, who can resist a trip to Drôme Provençale?
