Lakes, rivers and an impressive canyon are just some of the features you will find on your trip to the Gorges du Verdon. This area is known as Wild France due to its mostly natural profile, where you now have the opportunity to enjoy rural, nature and adventure tourism. We open the doors of the second deepest canyon in Europe for you to get to know it in depth.
The landscape left by the Verdon River in this area in the south of the Alps is something not to be missed. A true marvel that comes to an end at Lac Sainte Croix, which is one of the favourite summer destinations for its inhabitants, as they can bathe there while enjoying the panoramic views or take part in one of the water activities on offer.
The best way to get to Gorges du Verdon is to take the car and drive the more than 140 kilometres of the route known as the Corniche Sublime due to its altitude and the area where the road runs along the mountainside.

A first contact with this area is in the village of Moustiers Sainte-Marie, which is located in the heart of the gorges and whose main activity is pottery. This village has breathtaking views, as it is located next to one of the cracks in the cliffs. Nearby you will also have the best views of the lake of Sainte-Croix from the Galetas viewpoint.
This is not the only viewpoint you'll find here since, as we were saying, this area is worthy of admiration, so you can stop at as many as fifteen viewpoints that will give you a view of the Verdon at the bottom of the cliffs. One of the favourite places for climbing enthusiasts is the Escales cliff, which rises up to 300 metres.
We spoke before about the Corniche Sublime, but there is another spot that you cannot miss, the one with the best views and next to the cliff that we detailed before: the Point Sublime, a place to observe from its viewpoint. Don't forget your camera because you will want to immortalise the moment!

It is located at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level in a valley protected by mountains almost 2,000 metres high. An impressive spot where, if you find rural accommodation, you will enjoy the experience even more.
As for the gastronomy of the area, it is a place of contrasts where you can enjoy one of the most representative products, the black truffle, as well as the rich cheeses that are produced in the traditional way in some of the villages in the Gorges du Verdon, where this way of doing things is still preserved today, as well as the many delicious wines that will complete this region’s most typical menu.
