Broto is a municipality in the province of Huesca where you can enjoy some the most iconic landscapes in the Sobrarbe region. Its spectacular natural surroundings, just a stone's throw from the Pyrenees and the Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park, combine with a deep-rooted history that is visible in the winding stone streets to this day.
Broto is an ideal place to enjoy tourism of all kinds and to create memories with your loved ones against the backdrop of the spectacular Broto Valley. The village sits at the head of the valley on the banks of the River Ara.
This village seems to have been founded in the year 1076, which is the first known reference to it, and nowadays the municipality is made up of several other nuclei, namely Asín de Broto, Oto, Sarvisé, Bergua and Buesa, with almost 600 inhabitants in total. Sarvisé is the most densely populated village in the area.
What to see in Broto? It is one of the most beautiful destinations in Spain due to the intricate network of streets and plazas that make up the village centre - you have to discover it for yourself!
One of the main points of interest is the church of San Pedro Apóstol, which dates back to the 16th century and is located in the highest part of the village. The highlight is the outstanding bell tower.
The Casa del Valle is another place where time appears to stand still. It was a former prison and nowadays is divided into a visitor-friendly prison part and the Casa del Valle itself, which was a kind of courthouse. Taking a look around this unique building is one of the best things you can do with children in the area.
As for the activities that take you into the natural surroundings of Broto, there is the via ferrata of Sorrosal, a route of just over 2 hours which passes through tunnels, over bridges to one of the jewels of Broto: the Sorrosal waterfall.
There is another circular route that links Broto with Torla. You’ll love the views of the river and the mountains of Torla which rise to over 1,000 metres high. Impressive!
In addition, there are very interesting villages nearby, such as Oto. If you are wondering whether to visit Broto or Oto, it really doesn’t matter. They’re equally picturesque and are separated by just one kilometre!
As well as being one of the most beautiful villages in the area, Oto is a place where you can enjoy the traditional architecture of this part of the Pyrenees. That includes the famous defensive tower, which dates back to the 16th century.
Sarvisé, Torla and Fanlo are some of the other places you can visit without travelling far.

In Broto there are charming rural hotels and flats where you can relax and spend some very pleasant days, as well as holiday cottages to accommodate the whole family - including the dog. If you want to discover different parts of the valley, you will also find holiday homes in nearby villages such as Aínsa, Torla and Ordesa - there’s no chance of being left out in the cold!
