Laspuña is a small mountain village in Huesca that forms part of the "Sobrarbe" region. It is an ideal destination for those looking for a quiet retreat on their rural tourism holidays.
You may wonder, what can I do once I get to this little village? Well, let's not judge a book by its cover. For a start, Laspuña has a Museum of naves and woodwork located in the Town Hall's attic, in the main square. Navatas are a type of raft made of wood that are made a lot in this area.
What can you do with the naves? Well, to find out, you'll have to go to the “Navatero Ecomuseum”, where they will explain everything you need to know about these wooden boats, as well as explaining you how to take a trip in one of them on the river “Cinca”, which passes near the town. This is important information, as in August a group descent is organised on the river.
Can you take part in the descent of the “Cinca”? This question can be answered at the Centre for the Interpretation of Natural Life and Traditional Activities in “Ceresa”, a neighbouring municipality. Between “Ceresa” and “Laspuña”, you can walk to the fountain and hermitage of “Fuente Santa”, to which miraculous properties are attributed. It is a place of importance for the people of “Laspuña”.
A little further on is the "Añisclo" canyon, which forms part of the "Ordesa y Monte Perdido" Natural Park. It is a place with spectacular views sculpted over time by the "Bellós" river. Furthermore, in this area you can practise activities such as water canyoning or climbing via ferratas. For the youngest members of the family, there are even caving expeditions.
Back in the village, you'll probably want to try some of the local cuisine. Here they specialise in grilled meats, and if you can't decide, we suggest you try the lamb chops. You'll lick your fingers after trying them.
Once your stomach is full, you can return to your accommodation. The hotel sector has grown a lot in recent years in Laspuña, so you can choose from a wide variety of hostels, hotels or rural houses where you can surrender to the embrace of a warm room and a comfortable bed.
You'll have a great time during the patron saint's festivities of "San Mateo", held in mid-September, while music and dancing fill the streets, as well as shows for the children.
Laspuña may not be a very large village, but as they say, big surprises come in small packages. Enjoy your rural experience in the Pyrenees here.
