Did you know that Arroyo Frío is one of the towns with the highest number of tourist visitors last year? It is not strange to know this fact if we look at its panoramic view, in which the vegetation undoubtedly stands out.
Arroyo Frío is a dream-like location that makes its tourists enjoy, in the heart of the Guadalquivir Valley, and located in the centre of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park. Belonging to the spectacular region of La Iruela, in Jaén, this town has many places to offer to its visitors.
If you want to be one of them, don't hesitate to pack your hiking boots, as this is one of the most popular activities in this area, where you will be able to explore every inch of it on foot.
This town has gone from being a small village where only a few families lived, to become one of the most important touristic centres due to its large number of hospitality services in the area. During the year, it has a little more than 200 inhabitants, which increases to 3,000 in the high season. Rural accommodation in the area has proliferated considerably, taking advantage of the area where it is found, and the quality of its services.
Once you have chosen your rural house and have recharged your batteries, we recommend that you visit places such as the Puente de Herrerias bridge, or that you go to the source of the Guadalquivir River, which is a real natural gem. Of course, you can't forget the Tranco reservoir. In all these places there are routes to do on foot or by bicycle with varying difficulties, now you just have to choose which one you want to do.
Nearby you will find the Cascada route, which is a natural path where you can observe the action of the water of the Guadalquivir which results in the gorge next to which the vegetation grows, leaving a unique sight.
A stroll through the town of Arroyo Frío is also a good idea, especially if you decide to visit its fountain or the Ethnographic Museum, which exhibits some of the elements typical of old trade professions, as well as photographs of the inhabitants and the landscape from previous decades.
But if you still don't know what time of year to travel, we recommend that you do so during its festivities, where you can learn first-hand about the area's traditions.
The most important is the one held in August in honour of the Virgen de la Asunción, on the 15th of this month a procession is held with the image of the Virgin, and in the centre of the village different activities are organised for families. In January, the feast of San Antón is another event that you shouldn’t miss.
Finally, as far as the recipes of Arroyo Frío are concerned, we would like to highlight the mountain gastronomy, which is dominated by honey, the delicious olive oil that has the Sierra de Cazorla D.O., and other products such as its meats, which are of the highest quality.
Without a doubt, Arroyo Frío is a destination for everyone.
