What to see
Starting with Nancy, a visit to the Cathedral, followed by a tour of the Duke’s Palace are two perfect plans. It also has a variety of museums, such as the Ecole, and buildings where you can appreciate the local Art Nouveau style.
There is also plenty to do in Metz, starting with one of the oldest churches in the country, Saint Pierre aux Nonnais, the Cathedral of Saint Etienne, with its breath-taking panoramic views, and the famous Pompidou Centre.
For those looking to relax, there is nothing like choosing one of the five spa resorts and enjoying relaxing moments in the water. And afterwards? How about skiing in the Vosges mountains.
What to eat
As we said before, this is the land of plums in the mirabelle variety. This region produces 75% of them, so it is not difficult to identify their flavour in any of its dishes, especially in the sweet ones.
If you are more of a savoury type, you can't miss the Quiche Lorraine, a kind of pie made with vegetables or meat and cream that is baked in the oven and will delight the most demanding palates. Pâté Lorrain is one of the oldest recipes in the area, but also of France, so nothing could be more traditional that having a taste of this traditional product.
Last but not least, Potée Lorraine, especially eaten in the cold season, is similar to a stew with vegetables and meat.
Nature
The region of Lorraine can boast of having a lot of green places where you can enjoy hiking and good views.
Throughout its territory, you can discover corners of nature such as the important Regional Natural Park of the Northern Vosges, a World Biosphere Reserve. And it is precisely in the Vosges area that we find the largest lake, the lake of Gérardmer.
The Lorraine region is ideal for those in search of tranquillity and nature, making it the perfect place to enjoy a complete rural tourism experience.
Our festivities
There are several dates that are famously celebrated in the Lorraine region, and one of the most surprising is the “Mondial Air Ballons and Montgolfiade des Champs”, a hot air balloon festival that makes Lorraine’s sky become full of colour.
Another important event is the December festival in honour of Saint Nicolas, where there's no shortage of lights and colour in a party that culminates in fireworks. If you're travelling with children, they'll love it.
Finally, the “Fête de la Musique de France” is held every year on the 21st June, so you can enjoy the traditional sounds of France in style!
