The municipality of La Cabrera is in the heart of the Sierra Norte in the Region of Madrid. It's a place where you will enjoy spectacular views and plenty of history and heritage - both in the town and the surrounding area.
The natural boundary is the Sierra de La Cabrera, located to the north of the town. It boasts dramatic peaks such as the Pico de la Miel (Peak of Honey), which is over 1,300 metres tall.
What to see? In this town you will be able to enjoy numerous attractions that take you on an extensive tour of its history.
One of the first places we recommend you visit is the Tomb of the Moor, an ancient necropolis in which up to ten Visigothic tombs dating from the 7th century have been found.
Near the Cancho de la Cabeza peak, some remains of an ancient Iberian settlement have been found. The Convent of San Antonio is in the same area, which you can reach by following the hiking trails that wind through the rugged landscape of the area.
In the town centre you will be able to see the old livestock crush, which was used by farriers for horseshoeing, and also the parish church in honour of the Immaculate Conception. The latter is located in the Plaza de la Concordia, one of the central squares in the town, and boasts images of great beauty in its interior.
The Town Hall of La Cabrera, also located in the Plaza de la Concepción, is another place to visit. Nearby are some of the best restaurants in the area, where you will be able to sample traditional dishes.
For nature lovers, a great idea is to visit the Villa San Roque Botanical Garden, where you can see examples of the typical vegetation of the area. This garden showcases plant species that are characteristic of the climate in this part of the sierra and has interpretation boards to accompany them.
To live in La Cabrera is to be able to enjoy a high quality of life, tranquillity and spectacular landscapes that no one could ever tire of.
It's also very easy to get here. Many people make the journey to La Cabrera at the weekend due to its proximity and transport links to Madrid. By car, it takes a little over an hour to get here and it's not much longer a journey if you come by bus. Of course, if you drive, you’ll be able to easily visit other nearby villages.
Undoubtedly, one of the best ways to enjoy this mountainous corner of Madrid is to spend a few days staying in one of the holiday cottages in La Cabrera, which will allow you to recharge your batteries after a day in the great outdoors.
In addition, the range of accommodation is wide and varied. Some of the holiday cottages have swimming pools for the summer, and there are even heated pools so that you can also enjoy a dip in the water in winter. Holiday rentals in the Sierra de Madrid also tend to be an affordable option for a getaway, without compromising on comfort.
