Navacerrada is one of the municipalities that is worth going to see and where you’ll be able to enjoy some peace and quiet in the bustling Community of Madrid. It is home to the tallest mountains in central Spain and its landscapes are dominated by the gorgeous Sierra de Guadarrama national park.
This locality is one of the most visited places at the weekend and is situated at not much more than 50 kilometres from Madrid. So, what is there for you to see in Navacerrada? The town has a lot of places we would encourage you to go see. If you’ve not got a lot of time, we’ll give you an idea of what you can do in a day.
You can start off in the heart of the centre in the square of Los Ángeles where there are plenty of free things for you to do, like admire the town council building which is known for its colourful appearance. You can also visit the clock tower which has a lot of features you’ll be sure to get a nice photo of.
Simply by walking down its streets you’ll come across the Paseo de los Españoles, an avenue where you can admire traditional buildings that create a beautiful atmosphere. You’ll also find the Tourist Office in case you need help or want to ask for some information.
The square of Doctor Degenda is a view you don’t want to miss out and it’s one of the liveliest places in the whole locality. It has lots of bars and restaurants for you to try one of the best quality Guadarrama meats (carne de Guadarrama).
The main feature of its religious patrimony is the Natividad de Nuestra Señora parish church which is located high up and dates back to the 16th century. From here you’ll have some of the best views in the whole town.
If you want an adrenaline rush and you’re visiting with children, visit the Navacerrada Pass. It’s 1.800 metres tall and is easy to get to by car. In winter it’s the busiest place for winter sport lovers as it has lots of ski paths. If you’re going to go in winter, the station usually opens in January depending on the snow, so make sure you check the snow lift is working before heading up.
When do the festivities take place? The patron festivals are held in honour of Natividad de Nuestra Señora and take place in the month of September, another perfect opportunity for you to get the most out of the town.
If you’re travelling in winter, you’ll be able to find the perfect accommodation to escape to from the cold, like a holiday cottage in Navacerrada with a chimney and, if you still want to go for a dip in winter, a climatized pool. Some of the perfect places to spend the day is the recreational area of La Barranca, ideal if you want to have a picnic in the middle of nature. Another gem you can get to know is the reservoir of Navacerrada, which has some amazing things to see like the Pico de la Maliciosa. This impressive rock wall is also part of a few tourists’ routes that take you to Bola del Mundo (a mountain) or Cerro de la Golondrina (a famous family friendly route), also passing through the Siete Picos massif where you can immerse yourself amongst the vast greenery.
