Robledo de Chavela is a charming municipality in the Community of Madrid in Sierra Oeste which is what fills its landscape with nature and tall mountains that are worth getting lost in for a few days.
This locality, with just over 4,500 habitants, has a wide range of services, places to see and activities on offer for you to live a truly unique Spanish rural tourism experience. It’s one of the most visited towns thanks to its proximity with the capital with only a mere 60km between them.
It’s situated 900 metres in the air and in what’s known as the Ruta Imperial which is the route prince Felipe II would take when visiting the community. It’s also separated by the river Cofio that runs through the municipality.
What is there for you to see? The locality has a ton of points of interests for you to see and will allow you to enjoy a walk through their history, a history from the roman age where it was once known as Roburetum.
In terms of its heritage, the religious architecture has an important part to play, with the gothic church in honour of the Asunción de la Señora, whose interior is filled with some true patrimonial gems.
Another one of the religious representations is the church of Santiago Apóstol, that dates back to 1948 and where you can also enjoy an impressive interior full of art and images. The following hermitages: Nuestra Señora de Navahonda, San Antonio de Padua and Nuestra Señora del Dulce Nombre de María de la Antigua are a big lure for tourism.
The Via Crucis and the Torreón de Fuentelámparas are another two things you can’t miss, two routes that will take you a lovely walk through the surroundings. If you want to visit the heart of the town, the best thing to do would be to go to the Plaza de España where you’ll find the town council building, its stunning appearance making it a declared historical art monument.
Don’t forget to go to one of the best indisputable attractions which is the NASA Observatory, where you can see the radio telescopes.

The festival programme of the municipality includes the spring celebrations with the pilgrimage of Virgen de Navahonda, Semana Santa (Spain’s easter week), and or Day of the Merienda; as well as the summer programme which celebrate the Virgen de la Antigua, San Antonio and, finally, the patron saint celebrations which are held in honour of Santísimo de la Agonía towards end of August.
