At the top of the Montgrí massif, we find the Montgrí Castle, a fortress from the Late Middle Ages, built by order of King Jaime II, who placed it at this specific point of the Bajo Ampurdán to control all the area from its 300 meters above sea level. For those who are passionate about history, less than half an hour by car to the east we can visit the Vila Ibérica de Ullastret, the largest Iberian settlement in Catalonia and one of the best preserved in Spain, forming part of the The archaeological site of Ullastret is made up of the Illa d'en Reixac, the Puig de Sant Andreu and the Puig de Serra necropolis. The site places us in the culture of the pre-Roman settlers of this area of ​​the peninsula about 2000 years ago, although in order not to have to guess at a personal level, above all, it will be convenient for us to visit the interpretation center located in the town itself, it is also appreciated that there are parts of the town that we can walk through, in a much more immersive experience.
