Cambados is a sea town that forms part of the provence of Pontevedra where you’ll get the chance to disconnect while being surrounded with the most spectacular landscapes of the region of Salnés with a patrimony so rich, it will help you enjoy the rural tourism.
Located next to the Arousa river, this spectacular town has an array of different activities and points of interest on offer that you must see during your holiday that will help you get to know the true personality of the place.
In terms of the population, Cambados is comprised of more than 13,600 “Cambadeses” which is the name given to the inhabitants of the town. It’s especially in summer when the population increases with the arrival of tourist season. It can be divided up into five areas: Castrelo, Corbillón, Cambados, Oubiña y Vilariño.
So, what exactly is there to see in Cambados? There are a lot of places of interest for you to enjoy, starting off with its historical centre that has the badge for being a beacon of cultural national interest.
This town, formally known as the Very Noble Town (Muy Noble Villa), has a spectacular patrimony where two specific wonders stand out: the ruins of Santa Mariña Dozo and the skeleton of an old church that you’ll be sure to want to take photos of.
In the heart of this town, you’ll find one of its prettiest features which is the main square (plaza de Fefiñás) where you’ll find the Pazo de Fefiñas, La torre del Homenaje and very close the church of San Benito that is just as beautiful on the inside as the outside.
Another one of its lures along the coast is the Tower of San Saduriño which is an old watchtower that has been declared as a national cultural interest since 1994. Beside the coast the Muiño de A Seca can also be found.
So, what is famous for? There are two points of reference that make it so famous. One of them is the impressive collection of noble Galician country houses including those of Montesacro, Fajardo, A Capitana or Bazán, that today is a state-owned hotel.
The second reason for its fame is for being the capital of Albariño that is home to the Do Rías Baixas and is situated within the Ruta do Viño that assures you a spectacular wine experience. You can do some sort of wine tasting activity or even just try some at a local restaurant in the centre which will go perfectly accompanied with some of the typical food of the region.
The map of Cambados leaves us with a wide variety of places you cannot miss, so if you want to come visit you can take the train to Ferrol and from there you can take the bus.
Another option, that’s a lot more comfortable, is to go by car. That way if you want to go to a few nearby towns, you have the freedom to do so without having to rely on public transport timetables. And in terms of where you can sleep you can rent all kinds of holiday homes in Cambados.
If you’re travelling with family or friends there are group houses, however if you go in summer, make sure you find one with a pool! Anyone of the houses will be perfect to enjoy a well-deserved break in Galicia and the Rías Baixas, as well as its enchanting nearby towns like Combarro.
