If you are thinking about coming to Pedraza for a visit, know that you have chosen one of the best rural tourism destinations.
This is a small town that belongs to the province of Segovia, a place where you will able to enjoy of some of the most impressive views from the Middle-Ages that you can find in this province. Located 40 Km away from the capital of the province, its location will give you the possibility of moving around to check other places of tourist interest in this area.
Currently declared an Historic grouping, and is also a place to enjoy of some quiet holidays, as it only has a population of around 400 inhabitants.
This is one of the most visited during the whole year from this province, and it's a perfect destination to spend the weekend, or some quiet holidays. Each year, more an more visitors come to Pedraza to see its beauty for themselves, which has become one of its main economic activities, aimed especially at rural tourism, which allows visitors to discover the essence of this region, and some of its lesser known spots.
If you would like to discover some of the curiosities, all you need to do is stroll by its streets and alleys, which has appeared in several TV shows and ads of Spanish television.
Its beauty and medieval character has served as the setting of films and television productions, such as the very successful Spanish TV show, “Isabel”, or one of the traditional National Lottery ads, starring worldwide famous singers Montserrat Caballé and Raphael, and which are part of the Spanish culture and Christmas tradition.
Another important event celebrated here is the famous Concierto de las Velas, held the first and second Saturdays of July.
But you won't really know what things and views Pedraza can offer until you step in this small town, and see for yourself the many tourist opportunities there are.
Once you arrive, you will see at its entrance the Puerta de la Villa, one of its most emblematic monuments from this place, built in the 11th century, and rebuilt five centuries later. Next to it, you will find the old prison, where the former watchtower used to be. The prison can be visited nowadays, after undergoing several modifications in the 20th century, when it was turned into a museum where you can see how medieval prisons used to be.
The castle is another landmark of Pedraza, an important building dating from the 13th century that, after being passed from owner to owner, and undergoing also several modifications, it has finally converted into a museum where some of the works by Spanish painter Ignacio Zuloaga, who also lived here, is exhibited.
The Plaza Mayor is also one of the most representative buildings of this small town, and a place where you will never get lost. This medieval looking square, built in the typical Castilian style, has been declared an Historic Grouping. And last, although not the only one left in Pedraza, the Romanesque church of San Juan is another place you must visit.

If you are travelling during summer or winter, don't forget to bring an umbrella along, since those months are the rainiest ones in this area but if, on the contrary you are coming during summer season, you will experience the hottest and driest weather in July.

If you get a little but hungry after enjoying of a such a tourist route all over Pedraza, don't worry, since you will be able to try the best local products and gather you strength.
This is a place where you will be able to treat yourself to some delicious grilled meat dishes, elaborated with some excellent local raw materials. If you come to this place, you cannot forget to try the suckling piglet and young lamb, both of them cooked in a traditional stone, wood-fired oven. It's in this very same ovens that the traditional homemade bread of this region is baked, giving it its characteristic flavour and soft, sponginess.
As we were saying, here none of your meals will be missing any kind of meat, either cooked or raw, such as 'salchichón', 'chorizo' or 'lomo embuchado'. All of this, accompanied by some nice cheese and red wine, both of them elaborated in this region, and which will add the perfect touch to this unique gastronomic experience.
There are many differetn ways to arrive to Pedraza. If you are cominng by bus, it will take you right to the very center of the town, where the bus station is located. For mid and long ditannce journeys, the train station in Segovia will be your destination, 34 Km away from Pedraza.
You can easily come to Pedraza by car, as it is perfectly communicated with the rest of the country.
