The municipality of El Pedroso can be found within the province of Seville, where you’ll be able to admire the beautiful landscapes of the Sierra Norte among an array of white houses that are illuminated by colour from the Morena Mountain Range.
It has a lot of attractions on offer for visitors, from the beauty of the streets, a stroll through the landscape, its ancient history. In El Pedroso they have discovered some remains from Palaeolithic times such as some arrow tips made from silex. All of this is what makes is such a perfect destination to spend a few days at.
In terms of the population, it has over 2.000 habitants that are referred to as Pedroseños in Spanish and that get the pleasure of soaking up a territory full of complete magic and charm.
What is there for you to see in El Pedroso? Its city centre counts on a large array of points of interest for you to stop and admire.
One of the main attractions is the church of Nuestra Señora de la Consolación, built with what you could call a gothic style influence in mind that has since been added to on various occasions. Inside there are also a lot of cultural elements for you to admire.
Another one of the elements you can’t miss is the hermitage of Virgen del Espino that also has a lot of elements of great artistic value inside such as the main altarpiece. You could get here by taking a lovely walk through the filigrees in the month of August during the pilgrimage.
As we’ve already mentioned, the first traces of El Pedroso date back to Palaeolithic times with the finds discovered in the area, however, they’re not the only ones that have been found.
From the Roman ages we must highlight the remains of some old tiles called tégulas as well as from the Arab era we can find ourselves with the interesting town of the Kura de Firrish, which was located in one of the towns in El Pedrodo and where some old coins have been found that are currently held in the Archaeology Museum of Seville.
Where should you eat? In the centre of the town, you’ll be able to enjoy a few establishments such as bars or restaurants where you can try the typical Spanish food. We would recommend the wild boar or deer and the cured meats.
You can also savour these traditional dishes during the festivities, but when exactly are they? One of the most interesting times to eat this delicious food is at the Feria de Muestras de Productos Típicos y Artesanales, which is a fair that’s specifically known for its traditional foods and products, taking place at the start of September. However, without a doubt, the fair in August, the day of Virgen del Espino in September or the Cruces de Mayo in May are some other events you don’t want to miss out on.
The best way to get here is by car or bus on the motorway as there are several companies that stop in this town.
Lastly, don’t forget to take advantage of the chance to see the natural pools where you can bathe while being accompanied by an intensely green landscape that will be a whole experience you’ll never forget.
If you want to ensure you have time to see everything there is to see, we recommend relaxing in a traditional Spanish country house, many of which have a pool for the summer season, however, you could also get one of the cheaper houses out of peak season, relax in a Cortijo, which is a traditional rural home of Roman origin popular in the south of Spain, or at a holiday cottage in El Pedroso.
