Salou is the name of a town and municipality that form part of the province of Tarragona. The resort town is set on the Costa Dorada, with beautiful beaches that attract more and more tourists every year. Such is the summer season in Salou, that the population of the town and surrounding area increases by up to five times in July and August.
The good weather in the area, with mild winters and hot summers, makes it a first class destination. But in addition to the sun and the sand, it has plenty to offer tourists.

Among the historical sites is the Torre Vella, built in 1530, which served as a defensive tower against the threat of pirates.

In the centre of the city is the municipal park which is full of trees and vegetation, perfect for a stroll. Alternatively, take to the seafront and walk to the Monument to the Fisherman, which is located on the pier breakwater that separates two beaches.
What to see in Salou? The list of things you can see in Salou is endless. Fans of religious architecture will enjoy the church of Santa Maria del Mar. Not far from the Playa del Poniente, it was traditionally the place of worship for fishermen and seafarers.
One of the most beautiful places in the town is the olive grove, where 12 trees brought from Maestrazgo were planted to commemorate the independence of the municipality. The famous flea market, an event not to be missed, is held in the area every Monday.
Turning our attention to the coastline, there’s a whole range of things to do in the stretch between the lighthouse and the beaches. Salou has four main beaches as well as some smaller coves.
The two main beaches are Playa de Levante, which is the best known and the widest at 1,200 metres long. Everything you need to have a pleasant day is found here at the beachside. The second beach is Playa de Poniente, 1,000 metres long and located next to the marina.
Getting to Salou is very easy by car, and we recommend this mode of transport if you want to move around the municipality. There’s a wide range of entertainment in the area, such as the PortAventura theme park. Of course, there are also holiday cottages for you to stay in.
